Main Point: Jesus became a man to earn our trust and give evidence of His Love for us through his atonement. Without becoming a man, he could not have fulfilled God’s plan of redemption.
1. He is our Compassionate Representative
-
o Hebrews 2:18 (ESV)18 For because he himself has suffered when tempted, he is able to help those who are being tempted.
2. He is our Substitute
- Hebrews 2:16–17 (ESV)16 For surely it is not angels that he helps, but he helps the offspring of Abraham. 17 Therefore he had to be made like his brothers in every respect, so that he might become a merciful and faithful high priest in the service of God, to make propitiation for the sins of the people.
3. He is our Example
- 1 Peter 2:21 (ESV) “For to this you have been called, because Christ also suffered for you, leaving you an example, so that you might follow in his steps.”
o Christ is our example for all things. As a man, he endured pain, suffering, betrayal, temptation, loss, false accusations, hate, lies, gossip and the list goes on.
- 1 John 2:4–6 (ESV) “Whoever says “I know him” but does not keep his commandments is a liar, and the truth is not in him, 5 but whoever keeps his word, in him truly the love of God is perfected. By this we may know that we are in him: 6 whoever says he abides in him ought to walk in the same way in which he walked.”
